Protection against network threats:

There are two types of filtering:

  • Static network level
  • Dynamic application level

Prevent unknown connections between the network and the Internet.

The aim of the perimeter firewall is to prevent connections between the corporate network and the Internet that do not comply with the company's security policy. In a perimeter device the firewall is always the first line of protection.

The Panda firewall can carry out a series of filters:

  • Static filtering at network-level, based on rules defined by the administrator depending on the content of the headers of IP packets, the source and destination IP address, the interval, etc., for both inbound and outbound traffic.
  • Dynamic filter at application level with two features.
    • ‘Stateful Inspection' monitors the status and content of basic communications in all protocols and of advanced communications in FTP, PPTP, L2TP, IPSEC, the status of the connection, timeouts, connections established, etc.
    • ‘Deep Packet Inspection' scans the content of packets to inspect messages in HTTP, FTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, etc., when other modules are enabled.

Moreover, the firewall system in Panda appliances incorporates integrated NAT functionality to allow private IP addresses to be used and implement basic and advanced NAT (modifying the protocol messages, if necessary) for FTP, PPTP, L2TP and IPSec (NAT transversal).

The firewall system also allows administrators to configure traffic filtering or certain types of traffic for different protocols, according to a timetable or calendar and allow or deny access to certain network services during the intervals configured by the administrator.

IPS – Total protection against intrusions

The IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) can head off any attacker that tries to access your network. The protocols scanned are IP, ICMP, TCP and UDP.

An IPS (Intrusion Prevention) prevents known intrusions and attacks from damaging your corporate network. It also keeps your system permanently up-to-date and on the alert against this type of threat.

The IPS in Panda appliances represents the preventive protection against threats at network level. This means it can anticipate an attack, by creating a preventive protection layer.

Panda appliances' IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) can detect intrusion attempts using an intrusion signature file offered by Panda Security. These are updated every 90 minutes.

It scans IP, ICMP, TCP and UDP and administrators can configure the system to automatically block the intrusions detected and specify the threshold for each rule, reducing false positives.

Protection of communications across VPN

The VPN server in GateDefender Integra allows host to host, net to host, and net to net tunnels to be created under the most widely used protocols (SSL, IPSec, PPTP and L2TP). It can also act as a client in IPSec and SSL.

Secure connections between the internal network and remote users or branch offices

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a technology used to create a private connection on a public network such as the Internet.

This technology allows a remote user to connect to the company network securely across the Internet. To achieve this, information is encrypted at source and decrypted at the destination. This prevents it from falling into the wrong hands.

The VPN in Panda appliances supports all main VPN protocols:

Its anti-malware protection detects and blocks all types of damaging threats before they reach the corporate network: Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Dialers, Jokes, Phishing, Hacking tools, security risks and -through its heuristic engine- threats not yet cataloged.

The perimeter solution to combat malicious code.

Malware refers to all files with content that could be malicious for a computer system. This is not just limited to viruses, as there are many other types of files that can cause serious damage to computers or networks.

The term malware refers to a wide range of threats:

  • Viruses: They destroy information and replicate automatically.
  • Worms: They make copies of themselves and send themselves massively from infected computers to all contacts in the address book, for example.
  • Trojans: They can open ports to a hacker who can take remote control of an infected computer.
  • Spyware: They steal personal information stored on a computer.
  • Phishing: This involves sending email messages that appear to come from reliable sources (such as banks) and that try to get users to reveal confidential banking information. To do this, the messages usually include a link to spoofed web pages.   • Dialers: They change dial-up connections to premium-rate numbers without the user's permission.
  • Jokes: These are time-wasting tricks or jokes.
  • Other risks: Certain software is not classified as malware, but can pose a risk to the security of corporate networks if it is used.
    • Hacking tools: all tools that can be used to steal confidential information or gain unauthorized access, etc.

  • Scanning and disinfection: After installation, it immediately scans all inbound and outbound traffic, applying the actions defined by the administrator.
  • Incremental Signature Updates: Every hour, it downloads only new malware signatures patch, automatic and transparently.
  • Local Updates: It connects to a local server to check and download the new updates, instead of connecting to the Internet, for restricted security networks.

Action on malware. The administrator decides what action to take on any malware detected:

  • Disinfect: The file with the malware will be disinfected

Content Filter

The Content Filter lets you customize the types of files and messages to be filtered. It applies filters such as maximum file size, maximum number of compressed files, password protection…

It scans nested messages and even their attachments. Similarly, it can filter by content, by subject, by type, etc.

The Content Filter prevents potentially dangerous content from entering the network. The risks can differ from one company to another depending on many factors, including:

  • Sector to which they belong.
  • Size
  • Governmental restrictions affecting the company
  • Arbitrary decisions of IT administrators
  • Etc.

The filtering of potentially dangerous content takes place on two levels.

  • At file level (HTTP, FTP). Scanning the types of files that could represent a danger and filtering according to different criteria:

    • Compressed files containing a large number of files – Configurable by the administrator.

  • At message level (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4 and NNTP). Scanning the bodies, subjects and structure of messages and filtering according to different criteria:
    • By textual content. Lets you define the filtering rules for messages and attachments, by text content for SMTP, POP3, IMAP and NNTP. Messages can be filtered by:
      • Subject
      • Attachment name
      • Message body (text and HTML)
    • By no. of recipients. The maximum number of recipients can be defined for inbound, outbound or inbound and outbound mail.
    • Nested messages. Nested messages are filtered, as well as attachments to the main messages and the attachments to nested messages.
    • Encrypted messages. Files received encrypted with PGP will be filtered.
    • Malformed messages. Messages whose content cannot be scanned will be filtered.

Panda GateDefender Performa checks corporate email, reducing the impact of spam on the productivity of the user.

Every message is classified as Spam, Probable spam or Not spam. The intensity of the scan can be configured to prevent false positives. It is also possible to configure sender white lists and blacklists.
